I Painted Our House! Easy & Like A Pro

I’m ready to finally update the exterior of our fixer upper house with new paint! And to say I’m excited is an understatement.

The previous owner had this house painted yellow with brown trim, which is just not our style. It’s dated and dark and we can do better. We’re ready to freshen it up with a much more modern color and also take care of some exterior maintenance that is past due.

We saved so much $$$ by doing this ourselves. Read on or click the link below to watch how I did it!

Things I used in this video:

House Before

To prepare, I replaced the old caulking that had cracked and separated, added new caulk and power washed all the dirt off to reveal a fresh surface. Long past due on both of those.

Did you know that your basic caulk gun holds a super handy secret that you probably did not already know about? I’ll show you in the video!

I’m using a Wagner Control Pro 170 High Efficiency Airless Sprayer to paint the house, which makes it easy to paint like a pro! I’m super impressed with how fast and easy spraying is. And the Control Pro 170 has technology that reduces overspray by 55%, so I had no issues with paint going where I didn’t intend it to.

The color is Westhighland White by Sherwin Williams in the Duration line. It’s a warm white, but not at all yellow. We wanted a white that was not a stark, bright blue white.

Here is the house before…

… and here it is now!

We love the update! The brown and yellow and finally gone and the white is fresh and a much more modern color. The warm white works super well with the rocks and it also really brightens up our carport and our covered back porch.

Isn’t it good?!

I also replaced the dated front window blinds with cellular shades. And replaced the front porch and driveway lights with modern recessed lighting. I’ll be adding more to the front of the house soon.

Be sure to check out the video to see the whole process, including how to prepare and tips for a successful spray job!
